Internet Use Policy 

  •  In keeping with its mission to provide materials, services and information in a variety of formats, the Franklin Public Library strives to make Internet access reasonable, fair and equitable to all users.
  •  The Library cannot control and is not responsible for the content or accuracy of information accessed via the Internet. 
  • While Library staff is available to answer questions and help users locate and use resources on the Internet when time permits, staff is not available to provide in-depth assistance. Library staff will not assist with typing and/or entry of sensitive information on behalf of patrons.  The library is not responsible for personal information left on the computer after the user has completed their session. 
  • Users must respect the law and regulations in their application to copyright, licensed software and data. 
  • In compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act as codified at 47 U.S.C. § 254(h) and (l), the Franklin Public Library monitors Internet use to ensure that information deemed “harmful to minors” is neither accessed nor visible.   The means for achieving the above shall include visual observation by the staff to the extent practical.  Parents/guardians are responsible for monitoring materials accessed on the Internet by minors.  
  • The Privacy of others must be respected. 
  • Users shall not subject others to sexually explicit or obscene sites. Librarians have the right to ask a patron to exit an inappropriate site. 
  • Internet computers must not be used for illegal activity, to access illegal materials. 
  • Users must not make any attempt to gain unauthorized access to restricted files of networks, or to damage or modify computer equipment or software. 
  • Users must end their session and leave the terminal when asked to do so by authorized Library staff. 
  • Library employees are authorized to take prompt and appropriate actions to enforce the rules of use and to prohibit use by persons who fail to comply with the policies set forth.
